AUDIO AND VIDEO
Throughout my time as a Journalism major, I have produced a lot of interesting audio and video content. I would say that they've gotten increasingly better, as I gain more recording and editing skills. Below are just a few examples of my work that certainly show the progression of my audio and video production skills over time.
Audio
AppSpeaks Podcast
This audio clip is an introduction to one of AppState's clubs, AppSpeaks. In it, Dr. Matthew Richards, the faculty advisor of the club, discusses what AppSpeaks actually does, the roles its members play, and how students could get involved. I created this audio clip with a partner for our Specialized Reporting class in Spring of 2020, and while our editing was fairly decent, our sound quality wasn't very good. We weren't using any external recording equpiment, so that may have been why.
Albert Stabler
Audio Slideshow
This audio slideshow was also created for my Specialized Reporting Capstone in Spring of 2020. In it, my partner and I discuss the artwork of Albert Stabler, an art professor at AppState, as images of his work are shown. This was the first time I had worked with this specific medium, and the most difficulty I had with it was timing the audio clips just right with the progression of the pictures. We were, unfortunately, unable to get pictures of his most recent exhibit which impacted the flow of the story a bit at the end there.
Video
Grandfather Mountain's
Fall Color Sketchbook
This video is about the Fall Color Sketchbook program at Grandfather Mountain. It was created in my Multimedia Storytelling class in Fall of 2019 to help promote Grandfather Mountain. Basically, all of the students went out and filmed different programs at Grandfather Mountain and then shared the footage with each other, so we could all create unique videos. I'd have to say that this is video is one of the prime examples of my video editing skills. For this project, I learned how to use a new software, Adobe After Effects, and add neat little animations to my titles.
The Importance of Exercise
This video was also from my Multimedia Storytelling class in Fall of 2019, but it was meant to be a 'practice' video of sorts, as opposed to a polished product. We were told to get 10 minutes of someone talking about exercising, and then edit that with b-roll. So, I asked my good friend, Nicholas Petrillo, if he wouldn't mind going on a fitness rant while I recorded him. It was a great chance to sharpen my skills and work some more with Adobe Premiere Pro. This was also the first time I'd worked with a TASCAM recorder, and experimented with matching soundtracks.
Dragon's Den
This video was from my Audio-Video Production class in Spring of 2019, where we were asked to conduct a video interview, and then overlay that with b-roll to create a promotional video. So, I decided that the newest comicbook store in town at the time, Dragon's Den, would benefit the most from a promotional video. This marked my first experience actually using Adobe Premiere Pro to make videos, and while it's certainly not my best video, I feel that it turned out well for the lack of experience I had with the software. It even has titles and music! I do regret that I had the owners of the shop pass a handheld microphone between them, instead of just setting them both up with lavalier microphones.
MomTime
This is, without a doubt, the worst video I've ever made—hence why it's shamefully hidden all the way down here at the bottom of the page. For my freshman seminar class in 2016, we were asked to come up with an idea for an app and then create media to go with it. So, without any proper camera equipment or video-making skills of any sort, I decided to make a promotional video for said app. I grabbed a friend's iPad, and a few more friends to be the 'cast', and made the best video I could at the time. It was edited with the YouTube editor, and although it is quite terrible, I thought it would be a great example of how far I've come, in terms of my video-making skills.
